Letter from the Editor

What’s up? My name is Nora Thompson, and this semester I’m going to be one of the editors-in-chief of the Aztec Press.

At 19 years old, I’m the second-youngest member of the Press. I also work as a pastry chef, although “chef” is a subjective term. It’s more along the lines of constant suffering while being surrounded by cookies.

But anyways, I’ve been writing for the Aztec Press for two semesters, and I’ve wanted to be a journalist since my junior year of high school.

Other info about me: I have a dog and I haven’t been to the gym in almost 10 months. I just canceled my membership just to guarantee that I’ll keep up the streak.

I’m the family disappointment. I was accepted into Arizona State University for the spring semester, and both of my parents and my brother were University of Arizona students. Which is dumb because neither school is inherently better than the other one.

Each school has its own merits. Personally, I picked ASU because its journalism program is amazing, and I wanted to be apart of its honors college. If I had been born with a brain that could comprehend numbers and i wanted to do math or science than I would have gone to the UA, it’s that simple.

Still, l I have to cross to the other side of the street when I see an ASU student or someone wearing their colors but that’s a prejudice born from living in Tucson my entire life.

But outside of sports, I don’t think the rivalry should be so defined. I swear, if one more well-meaning acquaintance goes, “Why on earth would you go there?” I’m going to lose my mind.

Either that, or I’m going to do what my mom does on Facebook and say, “Nora is going to the Walter Cronkite School of Journalism in downtown Phoenix,” making every attempt to avoid saying ASU.
