Student Life presents Halloween Party

The student life department at Pima Community College’s Northwest Campus is throwing a Halloween party!

This themed costume party will be held on Oct. 31 starting at 10 a.m. in room D201, the Student Life Center.

There will be a costume contest, pumpkin decorating and food. The party is open to all students.

Trunk or Treat

Northwest Campus will be hosting its ninth annual Trunk or Treat on Oct. 29 from 5:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. in the campus parking lot.

This free family event will be filled with fun activities such as decorating car contests, costume contest for all ages.

More than 8,000 people are expected to attend this year.

The idea behind the event is to make trick or treating safe by handing out candy to kids from the trunk of a variety of cars.

“Moster House” will be showing as apart of Northwest Campus’s “Cinema Under the Stars,” at the outdoor amphitheater.

Northwest YMCA has paired up with PCC for fun, including performances, photo booths and face painting.

West Campus

Student Life Celebrates with a Haunted House

West Campus Student Life will hold a variety of events to celebrate the Halloween holiday on Monday, Oct. 31.

Movimiento Estudiantil Chicano de Aztlan will be hosting a haunted house in the main Health Related Professions courtyard from 11 a.m. to 12 p.m. Admission is $1, and all proceeds will benefit the club.

There will also be a costume contest in the cafeteria from 12 p.m. to 1 p.m. iPod shuffles will be awarded to the person in categeories of most scary, funny and most creative costume.

All students and staff are welcome to participate, but must be present at 1 p.m. to win. Look for live entertainment during the contest.

Stock up on Halloween treats, and support M.E.Ch.A. during their bake sale from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Oct. 26 and 27. They will be selling candy and baked goods in the cafeteria and HRP courtyard.

Halloween party doubles as a fundraiser

The Desert Vista C.O.R.E. Club is hosting a fundraising Halloween party. The fundraising is to help the C.O.R.E. Club to get to New York for the 2012 NCORE conference.

The party will take place on Friday Oct. 28 from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m. in the Desert Vista campus cafeteria.

All-Ages Carnival

“Safe Halloween” was an event that had previously brought hundreds of people to Pima Community College’s East Campus.

This year PCC and the City of Tucson have paired up to offer a similar event—a Halloween fun night.

The “Carnival of Horrors” event will include costume contests, art projects and a haunted house from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 29 at William Clements Center, 8155 E. Poinciana Drive.

The costume contests offer categories for children ages 2-4, ages 5-8 and ages 9-12. Teens, adults and families also have separate categories and registration is mandatory and available on site.

An adult must accompany all children and admission is $3. Children under 1 years old are free.

Admission includes a free bag of popcorn and free cotton candy.

Pima Community College will host its annual Earth Science Day at Northwest Campus on Wednesday, Oct. 13. The event is free and open to the public.

More than 40 groups and organizations will participate from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. on the second  level of campus.

Earth Science Day is an opportunity for students to explore the natural world and learn about the geosciences, such as astronomy, climatology, geology and conservation.

This year, the event will sponsor a bike drive by BICAS and an “e-Waste Recycling Drive” by World Care.

Visitors are encouraged to bring a new or used bicycle for donation. BICAS will provide tax receipts upon request.

Any unwanted electronic devices will be accepted by World Care. Items deemed usable will be sent to one of World Care’s four programs, including Tools for Earth and Tools for Schools.

The group will accept computers, monitors, printers, cell phones, fax machines and VCR, DVD or CD players.

Students will also get a chance to taste food cooked in a solar oven and assess the accuracy of the campus’ giant compass sundial.

KOLD-13 annually broadcasts its noon weather report live from the event.
