Cross-country keeps winning

The women’s cross country team continues to keep stride with its winning ways.

The Pima Community College men’s and women’s cross country teams participated in the Region I Championships Oct. 29 at Shalimar Country Club in Tempe.

The women’s took second place after being narrowly beaten out by Central Arizona College.

Freshman Katherine Bruno crossed the finish line in second place out of 34 in the 5K with a clocked time of 18 minutes, 35 seconds. Fellow freshman Sionna Johnson completed her best race of the season as she took fourth place with a time of 19 minutes, 3 seconds. Bruno and Johnson were named first team All-Region.

Freshman Cindy Corrales finished in 14th place with a time of 20 minutes, 22 seconds, earning third team All-Region honors.

Freshman Kaylen Fox crossed at 19th with a time of 20 minutes, 49 seconds, while sophomore Arianna Roche placed 22nd at 21 minutes, 25 seconds.

The Aztecs men’s team took fifth place overall.

Freshman Morgan Risch was the top finisher for the Aztecs as he took ninth in the 8K race with a time of 26 minutes, 5 seconds. Risch earned second team All-Region honors.

Sophomore Collin Dylla finished in 16th with a time of 26 minutes, 31 seconds.

Sophomore Victor Bustamante finished 25th, crossing the finish line at 27 minutes, 26 seconds, while freshman Luis Oviedo was 27th at 27 minutes, 57 seconds.

Freshman Connor Deakin crossed 28th with a time of 28 minutes, 2 seconds.

The Aztecs are heading to the NJCAA National Championships Nov. 11 at Lakeside Golf Course in Fort Dodge, Iowa. The men’s race will be at 10 a.m. and the women’s race will be at 11 a.m.
