Women’s cross country takes the crown

The Pima Community College men’s and women’s cross country teams participated at the ACCAC Conference Championships at Estrella Regional Park in Goodyear Sept. 29.

Freshman Katherine Bruno is the ACCAC Conference champion after she took first place in the women’s 5K with a time of 18 minutes, 37.9 seconds.

The women’s team took second place, while Arizona College finished in first.

Freshman Sionna Johnson took fifth place for the Aztecs with a time of 19 minutes, 23 seconds. Freshman Cindy Corrales placed 13th with a time of 20 minutes, 24.5 seconds.

Freshman Kaylen Fox was 15th at 20 minutes, 41 seconds. Sophomore Arianna Roche finished the race in 18th place at 21 minutes.

In the men’s, the Aztecs took fifth place overall.

Freshman Morgan Risch had the best finish for the Aztecs as he took seventh place out of 53 with a time of 25 minutes, 25 seconds.

Sophomore Collin Dylla took 21st place with a time of 26 minutes, 42 seconds, while fellow sophomore Victor Bustamante placed 30th finishing at 27 minutes, 41 seconds.

Freshman Luis Ovieda took 33rd place at 27 minutes, 55 seconds and freshman Connor Deakin was 38th at 28 minutes, 28 seconds.

The Aztecs will race in the Mesa CC Thunderbird Classic Oct. 7 at Mesa CC. The men’s race will be at 7 a.m. and the women’s race will be 7:45 a.m.
