Bruno continues stellar run for PCC

Top-10 finishes for both men’s and women’s cross country in southern California.

 

Oct. 14: Mt. San Antonio Community College Invitational

 

The PCC cross-country teams competed in Walnut, CA on Saturday, Oct. 14, as part of the Mt. SAC CC Invitational.

The women’s team finished in third place out of 14 teams.

NJCAA National Athlete of the Week Freshman Katherine Bruno was the top finisher for the Aztecs as she took fourth place in the three-mile race with a time of 18 minutes, 59 seconds. Out of 126 competitors.

Freshman Sionna Johnson placed in 12th place with a time of 19 minutes, 40 seconds while freshman Cindy Corrales crossed the line in 21st with a final time of 20 minutes, 14 seconds.

Freshman Kaylen Fox placed 41st at 21 minutes, six seconds, and sophomore Arianna Roche was 59th with a time of 22 minutes, six seconds.

The Aztecs men’s cross-country team took sixth place out of 18 teams.

Freshman Morgan Risch had the best finish for the Aztecs as he took third place out of 179 runners in the four-mile race with a time of 21 minutes, 11 seconds.

Sophomore Victor Bustamante placed 46th with a time of 22 minutes, 55 seconds while freshman Luis Oviedo was 49th at 23 minutes.

Sophomore Gabe Atchley finished 92nd at 24 minutes, one second, and freshman Connor Deakin placed 101st at 24 minutes, 20 seconds.

The Aztecs will compete in the NJCAA Region I Championships on Saturday, Oct. 28 at the Shalimar Golf Club in Mesa. The men’s race will be at 9:00 a.m. and the women’s race will follow at 9:45 a.m.

 

Oct. 7: Mesa CC Thunderbird Classic

 

Pima Community College Aztec men’s and women’s cross-country teams competed at the Thunderbird Classic on Oct 7. at Mesa Community College.

Freshman Katherine Bruno took second place as the one of the top finisher among the competitors as she finished the 5K race with a time of 18 minutes, 43 seconds.

Freshman Kaylen Fox and sophomore Arianna Roche set personal records. Fox took 12th place with a time of 20 minutes, 33 seconds. Roche placed 16th at 20 minutes, 50 seconds and freshman Cindy Corrales finished in 11th with a time of 20 minutes, 29 seconds.

The Aztecs’ men’s team finished in third place. Sophomore Collin Dylla was the top finisher for the Aztecs with an 11th place finish out of 50 runners and a time of 27 minutes, 18 seconds in the 8K race.

Freshman Connor Deakin also set a personal record with a time of 28 minutes, 20 seconds, which put him in 26th place.

Sophomore Victor Bustamante finished 19th with a time of 27 minutes, 58 seconds while freshman Luis Oviedo took 32nd place at 29 minutes, five seconds. Sophomore Gabe Atchley was 34th at 29 minutes, nine seconds.

The Aztecs will compete in their final regular season meet on Friday in the Mt. SAC CC Invitational in Walnut, California. The men’s race will be at 10 a.m. and the women’s race will be at 10:45 a.m.
