The Pima Community College Aztecs have had a successful season on paper. Currently the Aztecs are 12-0-2 in their last 14 games. The Aztecs even closed off the regular season with an 8-0-2 record at Kino Stadium.
Oct.12: PCC 1, Glendale CC 0
The Aztecs (14-1-3) eager to finish the season with a home victory, met their match against the Glendale Gaucos (7-7-3).
The game had barely even started when sophomore Tatsuma Yuki assisted sophomore Julian Goana in the 4th minute to give the Aztecs the lead.
Oct.10: PCC 5, Chandler-Gilbert CC 0
The Aztecs (13-1-3) closed off its second to last home game with a convincing victory against the Chandler-Gilbert Coyotes (9-7). This game also marked the Aztecs sixth shutout victory of the season.
The Coyotes were able to hold off the the initial 29 minutes of the game until freshman Hugo Kametani came to the rescue to give the Aztecs a 1-0 lead.
The Aztecs would receive its insurance goal until seven minutes later when freshman Jose Irra rode up the scoreboard with the help of Cooper.
Kamentani wasn’t done goal scoring for the night when he scored a mere three minutes later in the 58th minute with an assist from sophomore AJ Valenzuela.
Oct. 7: PCC 5, Gateway CC 1
The Aztecs (12-1-3) walked away with yet another victory against the Gateway Geckos.
The Aztecs have scored a combined 11 goals against the Geckos this season.
Freshman Abraham Espinoza gave the Aztecs the lead three minutes into the match.
Yet the Geckos were quick to respond four minutes later with an equalizer.
The Aztecs didn’t get its lead until the end of the first half when sophomore Tatsuma Yuki scored in the 40th minute with an assist from Goana. The Aztecs rode up the lead when Flores scored in the 54th minute.
It was Espinosa night, as he finished with another goal in the 71st minute and one assist.
Freshman Giovanni Ahumada gave the Aztecs its final goal of the night in the final 14 minutes of the match.
Oct. 5: PCC 4, Scottsdale CC 1
The Aztecs (11-1-3) looked to bounce back from its previous draw with a victory against the Scottsdale Artichokes.
Yet only one minute into the game, the Aztecs allowed a goal. For the remainder of the half, the Aztecs trailed behind.
The Aztecs were unsuccessful with getting on the board until Gaona scored in the 41st minute to close the Artichokes lead.
Gaona’s scoring wasn’t finished for the night, when one minute into the second half he scored a second goal to push the Aztecs on top.
The lead only grew with goals from freshmen Ricky Flores and Daisuke Tanaka in the 74th and 77th minute, respectively.
Oct. 3: PCC 0, Yavapai College 0
The Aztecs (10-1-3) met an evenly matched opponent when they faced the Yavapai College Roughriders (12-1-3).
The seventh-ranked Aztecs and the No. 4-ranked Roughriders played to a scoreless draw.
The Aztecs outshot the Roughriders 27-17, leaving freshman David Silva to finish with four saves.
