GOLF: Men’s golf takes third straight NJCAA Region I Championship title

As the season winds down for the Pima Community College golf team’s, sophomore Desiree Hong captured her second ACCAC Player of the Year award.

The men’s team took home their third straight Region I Division I Championship, despite having finished third or worse in all of their meets.

MEN’S

April 17-18: Paradise Valley Invitational

The PCC mens golf team took fourth place at the Paradise Valley Invitational.

Each of PCC’s top four players tied for 14th place in the individual standings.

Sophomore Jonah Daniels shot even-par for the first round and finished with a score of 148 (72-76).

Freshmen Derek Lozier and Cooper Cordova both shot one under par, 71, the first round but failed to reproduce the same score the second day ending with 148 (71-77).

Region I Championship

The Aztecs secured their third straight Region I Division I Championship.

Sophomore Nick St. Clair shot an even par the last day to post a four-day score of 304 (75- 81-78-70) good for fifth place. Sopomore Colton Gage shot an overall 302 (73-81-77-71).

As a team the Aztecs finished with a four day total of 1213 (296-317-303-297). Eastern Arizona College finished five strokes ahead of the Aztecs on the last day, but ultimately finished in second by one stroke, 1214 (297-320-305-292).

WOMEN’S

April 17-18: Paradise Valley Invitational

The women’s golf team closed out their regular season at the Wildfire Golf Course in Phoenix as part of the Paradise Valley Invitational.

The Aztecs struggled in the first round of play, but quickly found the right swings to finish in second place.

Sophomore Desiree Hong finished second overall with a score of 163 (87-76). She finished six strokes out of first place.
