The women’s team reached the semifinals of postseason play for the Region I tournament. However, both the team and individual players would go no further and were eliminated from regional competition.
In a dominating performance, PCC’s No. 1 doubles team earned the Region I championship title.
Sophomore duo Francisco Ton and Marc Avalos were able to sweep the No. 1 doubles semifinals, 6-0, 6-0.
Then in the doubles championship, the duo lost the first match, then rallied back for win in the final two matches, 3-6, 6-4, 6-2.
“The final match of regional tournament was definitely a hard fought battle that took every ounce of strength and teamwork we had to win,” Avalos said.
The two are eagerly waiting for their matchups in the national championship tournament.
“I’m looking forward to competing with really high level players,” Ton said.
PCC won in the semifinals in five other instances.

He was halted in a sweep by Mesa CC, 6-0, 6-0.
