The Pima Community College men’s and women’s cross country teams closed out the regular season on Oct. 14 at the Mount San Antonio College Invitational in Walnut, California.
The Aztec women finished eighth out of 17 teams in a 3-mile race with a team score of 239 points.
Sophomore Samantha Felzien earned the best finish of any Aztec, finishing in fourth place out of 126 runners with a time of 18 minutes, 37.50 seconds.
Her performance set a school record.
Freshman Alondra Carrasco earned the next best finish for the women at 54th place and a time of 21:22.4.
Fellow freshmen Arianna Roche and Monique Ochoa finished 61st and 70th.
On the men’s side, the No. 19 Aztecs finished the 4-mile race in seventh place out of 17 teams with a team score of 191 points.
Sophomore David Hernandez earned medalist honors and the best finish for the Aztec men at sixth place out of 154 runners. His time was 21:17.3.
Freshman Alonso Sodari finished in 43rd place with a time of 22:37.3. Sophomore Armando Antonio Jr. placed 49th with a time of 22:45.1.
The Region I championships take place Oct. 29 at Glen Lakes Golf Course in Glendale, Arizona. The women’s race will begin at 9 a.m. and the men’s race starts at 9:45 a.m.
The NJCAA national championships will be held in El Dorado, Kansas, on Nov. 12.
