WOMEN’S TENNIS: Loss ends three-win streak, but women continue to roll

The No. 22 Pima Community College women’s tennis team (9-4, 4-2 in ACCAC) had its three- match winning streak snapped on March 31 at No. 12 Mesa Community College.

The Aztecs were shut out against the Thunderbirds 9-0.

Freshman Kelsey Brown made it tough in the first set of her No. 1 singles match but fell 7-6, 6-2.

The Aztecs defeated the Eastern Arizona College Gila Monsters 8-1 on March 29, winning its third straight match.

Freshman Samantha Ruth rallied to win her No. 2 singles match. Brown won her No. 1 singles match, 7-5, 6-0.

Sophomore Stephanie Nickles earned a shutout win 6-0, 6-0 at No. 4 singles.

Freshman Dana Pineda lost a three-set match at No. 3 singles as she fell 6-3, 4-6, 10-5.

The Aztecs swept the Gila Monsters in doubles competition.

PCC had a non-conference win on March 26 against Skagit Valley College.

The Aztecs defeated the Skagit Valley Cardinals 8-1 in a home match at the Tucson Racquet Club. Pima won two matches by default.

Sophomore Ema Hernandez rallied after dropping the first set in her No. 3 singles match. Her scores were 3-6, 6-1, 10-4.

In singles competition, Brown won a tight first set but responded in the second set.

Pima shut out Paradise Valley Community College 9-0 on March 24.

In No. 2 singles competition, Ruth won 6-2, 6-3.
