TRACK AND FIELD: Pima sets qualifiers

It was a solid outing for both the men’s and women’s track and field teams at the ACCAC Conference Meet at Central Arizona College on April 2.

The women’s team went 3-1 in head-to-head meetings. PCC defeated Mesa Community College (105-71), Paradise Valley Community College (119-35) and Glendale Community College (110-38). They fell to the home school Central Arizona 105-72.

Freshman Katherine Loyd earned her third outdoor national qualifier with a fourth place finish in the 1,500 meter race. Loyd also set qualifying marks in the 5,000 and 10,000 meter races.

Sophomore Shalise Fernander got second place in the 800 meter race and set a qualifying time of 2:19.38.

Hailey Merriman set a national qualifier in the pole vault event with a second place vault of 3.05 meters.

The men’s team also went 3-1 in head-to-head meetings.

The Aztecs beat Glendale Community College, Central Arizona College Paradise Valley Community College.

Freshman Devonte Rodriguez took first place in the javelin as well as setting a national qualifier with a personal best 47.87 meters.
