WOMEN’S GOLF: Hong captures top spot

By CASEY MUSE JR.

The Pima Community College women’s golf team finished in second place March 15-16 at the Chandler-Gilbert Invitational.

The Aztecs finished with a two-day total of 667 (338-329). The results marked the fourth-straight time they’ve finished in second place this season. Mesa Community College finished first

PCC freshman Desiree Hong took first place in individual play with a two-day score of 151.

Freshmen Adriana Moreno and Samantha Hacker each shot a two-day score of 170.

Results were similar at the Estrella Mountain Community College Invitational on March 13-14.

During team play, the Aztecs led into the final round but were unable to hang on. Pima finished with a two-day score of 659 (325-334), 10 strokes behind Mesa.

Hong captured first place with a score of 146 (72-74).

“She really has a lot of confidence,” head coach Rick Price said. “What’s really crazy is she is still not playing up to her full capability. She can be even better.”

Moreno finished eighth in the Estrella Invitational while sophomore Casey Morinelli took ninth.

Price let the team enjoy the rest of their spring break. “I believe we solidified our qualifying for nationals with our performance this week, so it will be nice to give them some time off to catch up with school work,” he said.
