WOMEN’S TENNIS: Aztecs sweeps road trip


The No. 22-ranked Pima Community College women’s tennis team dominated Glendale Community College 9-0 on March 22.

The Aztecs also defeated Grossmont College 8-1 on March 16 during a California road trip.

Freshman Samantha Ruth won her second consecutive three-set match at No. 2 singles.

Freshman Kelsey Brown won her match at No. 1 singles, as did sophomore Stephanie Nickles at No. 3 singles and sophomore Ema Hernandez at No. 4 singles.

Freshman Fernanda Miller won at No. 5 singles, while freshman Dana Pineda lost 6-1, 6-4 in No. 6 singles play.

In doubles competition, Ruth and Brown won 8-1 in No. 1 seeding. Hernandez and sophomore Noelle Karp defeated their opponents 8-4 at No. 2 doubles. Nickles and Miller outplayed their opponents 8-2 at No. 3 doubles.

In a March 15 match against non-conference opponent San Diego Mesa Community College, PCC rallied in singles play.

After dropping two of three doubles, No. 19 PCC rallied by taking five of six singles matches.
