The Pima Community College women’s golf team was back in action Feb. 14-15 at the Mesa Community College Invitational at Dobson Ranch Golf Course.
Freshman Desiree Hong won the individual tournament with a two-day score of 151. She shot a three-over par 75 in the first round and finished with a four-over par 76.
Hong defeated her opponent by a margin of three stokes.
“Once she has another tournament or two under her belt, she will improve even more,” head coach Rick Price said. “She grew up playing golf and we know that she is capable of shooting under par consistently.”
PCC ended in second place with an overall team score of 658. Pima finished behind host Mesa Community College, which had a score of 628. South Mountain Community College finished third with a team score of 687.
Sophomore Adriana Moreno finished the tournament tied for eighth place. She had a two-day total of 168 (84-84).
Sophomore Casey Morinelli and freshman Samantha hacker tied each other for 11th place with scores of 170. Both teammates improved their score by four strokes, 87-84 during the second round of play.
Freshman Raquel Converse shot 171 (86-85) and sophomore Carley Nelson finished at 182 (93-89).
The Aztecs are anxious to quickly return to competitive play.
“We’re looking forward to it,” Price said. “Each event gets us one step closer to reaching our goal of nationals in May.”
