Eight Pima Community College athletes eight national qualifying marks when the men’s and women’s track and field teams hosted the Aztec Indoor Invitational on Feb. 5-6 at the West Campus.
In women’s competition, the No. 11 ranked Aztecs set three new national qualifying marks and improved in three new ones.
Freshman Amber McCroskey tied the Pima school record and set her indoor qualifying mark in the 60-meter race at 7.81 seconds.
A 4,000-meter distance medley team consisting of sophomores Desiree Montenegro and Kelsey Montano and freshmen Katherine Loyd and Melissa Cotsonas took second place with a qualifying time of 12 minutes, 58.96 seconds.
The finish placed them at No. 4 in the nation.
Montano set a national qualifying mark in the one-miler at 5:32.57.
Freshman Grecia Castillo-Villegas improved her national qualifying mark in the triple jump with a new mark of 36-feet 10.25 inches. Her previous mark was 34-7.75.
Sophomore Juliette Cossey improved in the triple jump from 36-0 to 36-5.50. Freshman Hanna Bartz improved her qualifying mark in the long jump from 18-9.75 to 19-3.25.
In men’s competition, the No. 19 ranked Aztecs set five indoor national qualifying marks.
Sophomore Amanuel Logo finished first in the one-mile race with a national qualifying time of 4:23.59, putting him No. 9 in the nation.
Logo, with sophomores Mark Bennett and Ahmed Mohamed and freshman Alan Leyva finished second in the 4,000-meter distance medley relay in 10:26.04. The time put them No. 3 in the nation.
Freshman Nicolas Sibley set his national qualifier in the triple jump, taking first place with a jump of 46-6.75.
Freshman Treyshon Malone and Isaiah Banks both set marks in the long jump. Banks finished second with a jump of 23-0.50 while Malone placed third at 22-10.
Pima athletes set five indoor national qualifying marks and two school indoor records during competition Jan. 30 at Paradise Valley Community College.
So far this season, the Aztecs have 28 indoor national qualifying marks.
