Pima takes first in Thunderbird Classic

The Pima Community College cross country teams first place at the Mesa Community College Thunderbird Classic on October 10th.

In the first win of his collegiate career Amanuel Logo came in  at 25:53.6.

Amanuel established himself as a conference leader today.” Head coach Greg Wenneborg said.

Sophomore Mark Bennett took fourth overall as the second Aztec to cross the finish line at 26:33.2.

Placing 11th sophomore Hugo Nieves came in at 27:21.2.

Sophomore Ahmed Mohamed took 12th at 27:23.5.

Closing out the men’s race freshman Armando Antonio Jr. placed 18th at 27:43.7.

In women’s competition sophomore Kelsey Montano placed fourth 18:37.6.

Sophomore Mariah Zavala came in 11th place coming in at 19:24.4.

Sophomore Elizabeth Deaton finished 18th with a time of 19:43.3

Sophomore Desire Montenegro placed 23rd at 19:52.2 with freshman Samantha Felzien  right behind in 24th place closing out the race 19:54.9.

“Beating the number four team in the country , we are definite contenders in the national spotlight,” said Wenneborg.

Next week Pima will head to the Mt. Sac Community College Invitational in Walnut, CA on Oct. 16.
