Summer is nearly here, so what better way to prepare yourself than with some new tunes? Here are suggestions for that pre-summer playlist.
10. “West Coast” – Lana Del Rey
Del Rey’s newest track showcases the sounds of her unique voice and retro vibe. The song will appear on her fourth album, “Ultraviolence,” to be released later this year. If you’re West Coast dreaming, put this track on repeat and let Del Rey take you away.
9. “Do My Thang” – Miley Cyrus
Since the release of her newest album, “Bangerz,” Cyrus has been turning heads. Whether it’s an edgy new haircut or her controversial VMA performance, people can’t seem to stop talking about her. If you’re going through life changes, this track is for you.
8. “Take Me Home” – Cash Cash featuring Bebe Rexha
Cash Cash, brothers Alex and Jean Paul Malkhlouf and longtime friend Samuel Frisch, released “Take me Home” on their 2013 “Overtime” EP. The track, featuring Bebe Rexha, is infectious and will get you ready for the impending doom of an Arizona summer.
7. “Fancy” – Iggy Azalea and Charli XCX
If you haven’t yet heard Azalea, this song is a good start. The former model turned hip-hop artist left her home in Australia in 2006 and moved to the southern United States. In addition to being a great track, the music video parodies the 1995 movie “Clueless.”
6. “Problem” – Natalia Kills
Kills, a United Kingdom native, has been making music since 2005. This track from the actress-turned-musician comes from her second album, “Trouble,” released in 2013. Her voice and attitude make this perfect for any pre-summer playlist.
5. “You My Everything” – Ellie Goulding
This song, found on the 2013 release “Halcyon Days,” was featured in an episode of “Skins” but you don’t need to be a Skins fan to enjoy it. It’s a great pre-party track and will have you ready to take on the night.
4. “Girls Chase Boys” – Ingrid Michaelson
Found on her 2014 release, “Girls Chase Boys” is a great introduction to Michaelson. This track is not nearly as dance-inducing as others on this list, but it’s worth checking out.
3. “Tennis Court” – Lorde
Lorde, at only 17, has topped record charts with her dark tracks since the release of “Royals.” “Tennis Court,” found on her album “Pure Heroin,” is perfect for when you need to unwind from end-of-the-semester stress.
2. “Rather Be” – Clean Bandit featuring Jess Glynne
“Rather Be,” a single released in 2013, is a catchy track that is sure to have heavy rotation on summer playlists. With multiple remixes, you’ll find a version that fits your needs.
1. “Last Goodbye” – Ke$ha
This track, found on Ke$ha’s 2012 Warrior deluxe version, may be less poppy than what you typically hear from her. Despite the toned-down feel, it is still Ke$ha and this glitter goddess can do no wrong.
