Pima recognizes academic, athletic excellence

Pima Community College recognized four student athletes as recipients and finalists of the Lawrence R. Teledo Leadership Award during a presentation at the Board of Govenors meeting on April 16.

Recipients Scotty Watson and Kamre Cady, along with finalists Ben Gershman and Victoria Mariscal, were introduced by Athletic Director Edgar  Soto at the presentation attended by Chancellor Lee Lambert, board members, coaches, families and friends.

The award was created last year to honor students who show leadership development through excellence in academic and athletic participation.


Off season accolades for women’s basketball team

Pima Community College sophomore Raja Moreno-Ross was selected by the NJCAA as a Division II first team All-American on April 10.

This is the second straight year that a women’s basketball player was selected a Division II All-American. Moreno-Ross is the fifth Aztec to be selected first team All-American in seven years for the women’s basketball team.

This season Moreno-Ross started all 32 games for the Aztecs and she averaged 13 points and nine rebounds per game playing almost 25 minutes per game.

Moreno-Ross was also named first team All-ACCAC and first team All-Region I, Division II.

On April 21 Moreno-Ross verbally committed to play for the University of Hawaii.
