The Pima Community College’s men’s basketball team improved its record to 7-7 with a dominating 119-98 win over Midland College in the Pima Men’s Basketball Invitational on Dec. 30.
The Aztecs finished the tournament 3-0 and have already matched last season’s win total.
Pima was led to victory by the powerful duo of sophomore Shakir Smith and freshman Murphy Gershman.
Smith finished the game with 35 points and seven assists, while Gershman finished with 10 points.
Coach Brian Peabody’s team is finally starting to take form with the addition of Smith.
“I was very pleased where we are right now. With Shakir, we are a different team, and are much improved on the defensive end of the court,” Peabody said.
Peabody feels with hard work and continued improvement on the defensive side of the floor, the skies are the limit for this team.
PCC defeated the Soldierz club team 103-92 in the second day of the Invitational on Dec. 29.
