Quintet to display ‘Power of Five’

The all-male a capella quintet Cantores will perform a guest recital, “The Power of Five,” in the Pima Community College Center for the Arts West Campus Recital Hall on Oct. 6 at 3 p.m.

PCC music faculty member and counter tenor/tenor Jonathan Ng will join the other members of Cantores, including counter tenor/tenor Jose “Chach” Snook, tenor Stephen Warner, tenor Wesley Laird and baritone Darryl King. Pianist Suzanne Eanes will provide accompaniment.

 The group will perform a variety of choral music in styles ranging from the Renaissance period to modern day folk and popular songs.

Early music will include:

  • “Ave Maria”
  • “If Ye Love Me”
  • “Fair Phyllis I Saw Sitting All Alone”
  • “Sing We”
  • “Chant it”

Featured folk selections will include:

  • “Black is the Color of My True Love’s Hair”
  • “The Gift to be Simple”

Popular songs will include:

  • “Yesterday”
  • “Sound of Silence”
  • “Bridge Over Trouble Water”

Eanes will also perform several piano selections from different periods.

Admission costs $8, with discounts available.
