Pima Community College’s West Campus will host an open house for its newly renovated Fitness and Sports Science Center on Dec. 7 from 10:30 a.m. to noon.
The Fitness Center’s new lease on life represents its first major renovation since the facility was built in 1977. The project cost $2 million.
In addition to tours of the building, the open house will feature health-screening booths and provide health and fitness information.
Facility improvements include reworked plumbing, new lighting with condensed wiring and individual shower stalls in the men’s and women’s locker rooms.
Noise-reducing additions include a rubber floor in the weight room and soundproofing features for two exercise classrooms.
An energy-efficient air conditioner system has replaced swamp coolers that forced students to work out in 90-degree temperatures during summers.
PCC saved $30,000 by prepurchasing the air-cooling units.
Existing lockers were refurbished to save money.
