The middle of the semester hit a few weeks back, but I find everything really starts to wind up in November.
Stores make a big push for holiday shopping, classes zero in on final projects and, of course, registration for the spring semester begins.
If you are journalistically inclined, consider lending your voice to our newspaper.
JRN101 is the introductory class, and is a prerequisite for joining the staff. The class teaches the basics of news reporting and offers a warm welcome to the world of journalism.
The JRN185 and JRN285 classes for beginning and advanced students meet in the Aztec Press newsroom every Tuesday and Thursday to work on content for the paper.
We’re always looking for new members to join our staff, and we always need writers, photographers, editors, graphic artists and cartoonists.
On Mondays, JRN 240 students copy edit the articles and design the pages of the newspaper. (Confession: 240 is my favorite class, ever. There’s nothing quite like page design.)
Pima also offers spring classes in media communication, magazine and feature writing, broadcast journalism and photojournalism. All journalism classes are taught on West Campus.
Small student newspapers like ours are truly influenced by the voices of the individuals on the staff. Sign up and help shape the Aztec Press into a publication more tailored to your interests.
Working for the paper provides budding journalists with the opportunity to add clips to their portfolios and offers on-the-job training to help with success later on.
If you have any questions about joining our staff or any of the journalism classes Pima offers, contact newspaper adviser Cynthia Lancaster at email@example.com.
Registration for spring classes opens Nov. 12. For more information, visit pima.edu or any campus’ advising office.
